AMK Hub, opened in the year 2007 also makes news. The town planners hope to bring back the once loud and joyful crowd with its construction. There are Streets and Avenues in Ang Mo Kio. The major roads form the Avenues and the local ones form the Streets. Avenues in odd numbers start from the south and run along the east-west direction and the even ones originate in the west and run in a north-south direction.
There are two Mass Rapid Transit stations in Ang Mo Kio – Ang Mo Kio MRT station and Yio Chu Kang MRT station carrying passengers to nearby areas. There are trunk bus services also that take passengers to anywhere in Singapore.
The Birds’ park forms the major recreation area of Ang Mo Kio. There is a 4-5 km roundabout track, a playground, an exercise area for early risers, a long bicycle way along River Kallang, and community centers that offer badminton, basket ball courts, etc. for indoor lovers.
The town has public as well as voluntary organizations to take care of its healthcare, emergency services, security system and the community welfare systems. A government-run Polyclinic, other clinics, family doctors, the Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital, etc. deal with health care.There is the Ang Mo Kio Police Headquarters located along the Avenue 9. It is from here that the fire and emergency vehicles are dispatched on an emergency call.
The maximum time required to fix any problem in the town takes less then twenty minutes. Ang Mo Kio stands up for planning and perfection. Ang Mo Kio is one city that has always adapted itself very fast to every emerging change.

In Hokkien dialect, the words Ang Mo Kio meant “the red haired man’s bridge”. Later, the Chinese scripts were altered slightly to make its meaning “large and prosperous bridge”. That is the ‘Ang Mo Kio’ we are going to talk about.
Ang mo kio is a New Town located in the North-Eastern region of Singapore. The total area of the place is 6.38 km², the residential area forms about 2.83 km², there are 54,000 dwelling units and the population is almost 280,000.
This city is bounded by the Seletar Expressway (north), the Central Expressway (east), the Central Water Catchment (West) and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 (south). Most of the flats in Ang Mo Kio are organized in twelve-story long blocks or twenty-five story blocks built based on the 1970’s norms. As a part of the renewal process, some structures are rebuilt recently.
Gardens, walkways, senior citizen corners, amphitheatres, barbeque pits, etc. are the different community facilities that the town offers you. Ang Mo Kio food centre is one popular venue and goes a long way back to the town’s history. This is surrounded by the three cinemas – Broadway, Jubilee and New Crown.
